Dinner Plate tomato
DINNER PLATE

I loved this tomato. The one photographed was produced towards the end of the season, with earlier fruits taking on a more oblate beefsteak shape, without the heavy pleating. A beautiful red heart-shaped tomato with great flavor. The fruit can get well over a pound and the plants are very productive. Very juicy for a heart-shaped tomato, which tend to be more meaty. Dark, high crimson, red flesh lends itself to making this perfect a perfect tomato for sauces, paste or ketchup. Just an excellent for all-round use.

HISTORY: An heirloom tomato that traces back at least to the SSE 1982 Yearbook, where it was listed by Will Bonsall of Maine (ME BO W). Both heart-shaped and beefsteak fruit, pink and red have been reported. The original, correct version should be red heart-shaped.
