Deep crimson fruits are variable in size with most of them 8-12 ounces. Perfect slicing tomatoes - meaty, juicy with little to no core. The flavor is what you would expect from an old commercial heirloom - robust, acid with enough sweet to balance it out.
Plants are on the smaller size (4 to 6 ft), making them perfect for all gardens. They will need to be caged securely as the fruit load will crush the chinsey wire cages bought at local hardware stores for a couple of bucks.
HISTORY: After his passing In 2017, I became the beneficiary of the rather infamous SpudLeaf Willie's (Bill Malin) seed inventory. While his collection was rather small at the time of his passing, he was legendary in the seed world in his prime. Amongst the seeds were 3 packets of seeds labeled "Henry Field #1", "Henry Field #2" and "Henry Field #3".
Henry Field Seed & Nursery, an old company - now defunct - was absorbed by Gurney's. It is my assumption that Mr. Malin had purchased seed many years ago from Henry Field Seed & Nursery and saved seed from what was most likely a hybrid. The resulting generations were then separated as different segregations presented themselves.
Over the past 5 years, I have only been working with #2 and #3, having lost #1 after the first year. What you are being offered here is Henry Field #2.
