Have you ever seen the question asked, "If you could grow only one tomato..."? Let me assure you that many would answer with Stump of the World.
Gorgeous, pink beefsteaks are big (10 to 20 ounces), incredibly productive, of excellent flavor, meaty with a long counterlife and good disease resistance. It has been said that it is superior to the beloved Brandywine.
HISTORY: Introduced by the legendary Mr. Ben T. Quisenberry, who died in 1986 at age 99. Mr. Quisenberry lived in and operated a tiny mail-order seed company called Big Tomato Gardens out of a small building that had been an old post office in Syracuse, Ohio. He printed his own seed packets, complete with mottoes, on an old printing press.
Before settling on Stump of the World, Mr. Quisenberry called this variety Big Ben. It is believed that Stump of the World was a selection of Big Ben. Early seeds that he sold would often produce both regular and potato-leaf seedlings. Today, Stump of the World produces only potato-leaved seedlings.
Mr. Quisenberry was a very religious man. It is believed that the name Stump of the World is a bibilical reference to Jesse's stump - Isaiah 6:13 and Isaish 1:11.
Sold in a 3.5" pot.
